Let's Prime the Pump

In order to get this ball rolling, I'm going to offer my review of a book that I finished reading this past weekend.  It is The Business of the 21st Century, by Robert Kiyosaki, John Fleming, and Kim Kiyosaki.

WOW! I used my highlighter on this book more than any other book that I've ever read. If you're interested in leadership; if you're interested in wealth-building; if you're interested in entrepreneurship, then you've got to read this book!

I felt that there was a two-part surprise in the fundamental assertions of this book.  Number one, and the most relevant to this blog, is that the business of the 21st century isn't a traditional business or occupation.  In fact, you won't find it anywhere in the U.S. Department of Labor's Occupational Outlook Handbook.  According to Robert Kiyosaki, the business of the 21st century is helping people develop their leadership skills!  Imagine that!  And, that's significant enough to warrant recognition as a legitimate business?  YOU BET IT IS!!!  American society, possibly even all western societies, have become so acclimated to working a stereotypical 40(ish) hour workweek, then going home to vegitate, that virtually our only hope for saving ourselves from anarchy [my extrapolation -- not his] is to create enough true leaders in every country that we will avoid societal collapse.

Now, I said that there was a two-part surprise here.  I'm not going to reveal the second one, unless someone mentions it in their own review comment.  Let me just say that, if you are familiar with Robert Kiyosaki's Cashflow Quadrant, then you shouldn't be too surprised that this business model is designed to bridge the entrepreneur from the Self-Employed over to the Business Owner quadrant.

What did you think about this book?

Let's Get Started

We've got to start somewhere, so let's begin with a book that I started reading yesterday.  The title has enticed me for quite some time -- Leading Leaders to Leadership.  I'm looking forward to seeing what John Furman has to say about this.  Grab a copy and let's read it together.  It looks like a fairly quick-read, so we'll probably start our review comments later this week.

Happy Reading.

Open for Business

This new blog will be focused on Leadership.  What leadership is...  How do you develop leadership...  How does leadership differ from management...  Essentially, anything related to personal or group leadership.

One of the most effective means of learning about leadership is by reading books on the topic.  Perhaps the most effective means is to follow the mentorship of an acknowledged leadership guru.  While we will often reference and discuss many leadership gurus, this blog will focus moreso on the review of published books that are recommended by those gurus (and others).  Therefore, your thoughtful reviews and comments will be a valuable aspect of the leadership development of all visitors to this site.

Welcome.
